Kinesio Taping

About Kinesio Taping

When muscles are inflamed the space between the skin and muscle is compressed decreasing the flow of lymphatic fluid and stimulating pain receptors. Placement of Kinesio Tape on the affected muscle/joint helps lift the skin creating space to improve lymphatic flow above subcutaneous tissues and reducing pain. Kinesio Taping offers some muscle support and allows patients complete range of motion during the rehabilitation process.

Some Common Questions

How long does a treatment take?

This treatment technique is often performed in conjunction with a massage treatment. Patients can request additional time and multiple treatment areas to be Kinesio Taped depending on their injury/problem, stage of healing and overall treatment goals.

Are there any side effects?

Patients tend to feel relieved, and often report an easing of overall pain as Kinesio Tape lifts the skin off pain receptors and allows inflammation to disperse. In rare cases the tape may cause skin irritation and the tape can be removed easily.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments needed depends on the injury, what was damaged, and how long ago it happened.
Patients are encouraged to continue Kinesio Taping on their own, or within the clinic setting.
